Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister visits Prague.
Prague, 23 May 2008 - Today Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov paid one-day visit to Prague with the aim of taking part at Azerbaijani-Czech bilateral consultations.
In the first part of consultations Mr.Azimov met with the delegation of the Czech Foreign Ministry headed by Tomas Pojar, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. In attendance of the meeting were also Martin Povejsil, Political director, Petr Burianek, Director General of European Countries Section, Daniel Kostoval, Director of the Department for Northern and Eastern European countries, Martina Tauberova, Deputy Director of the Department for Northern and Eastern European countries and Radek Matula, head of section of the Department for Northern and Eastern European countries.
Bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic, Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Upper Karabakh, mutual visits of high-ranking officials, Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic to Azerbaijan, cooperation between Azerbaijan and EU, as well as NATO, cooperation between two countries in the energy field, state of affairs in Caucasus, possible areas of cooperation within GUAM-Visegrad and Azerbaijan-Visegrad formats were touched upon during discussions.
Next meeting was held with Czech Coordinator of the Visegrad Group and Ambassadors/Embassy representatives of Visegrad member states accredited in Prague, with Petr Burianek leading the Czech side.
The sides discussed possibilities for cooperation between GUAM and Visegrad, as well as Azerbaijan and Visegrad separately and concrete proposals were put forward to this aim. At the same time it was agreed to hold presentation of Visegrad Foundation at one of the GUAM events.
Mr. Azimov's last meeting took place in Parliament of the Czech Republic, with Jan Hamacek, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies. Further to the abovementioned issues, the sides also exchanged views on interparliamentary relations between two countries and installation of US radar base in the Czech Republic.
