28 May - Azerbaijani National Day
Prague, 31 May 2008 - Today, newly opened Embassy of Azerbaijan to the Czech Republic held first-ever in bilateral relations, celebration of the Republic Day of Azerbaijan in Prague.

At a reception held in Prague's Radisson Hotel around 200 guests, including high-ranking officials of the President's Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Industry and Trade, and Environment, Ambassadors/Embassy representatives accredited in Prague, heads of non-governmental organizations, members of Azerbaijani diaspora, Azerbaijani students studying in Prague and Czech businessmen took part.

In his opening address HE Tahir Taghizade, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the Czech Republic thanked participants of the reception and gave brief information about background of the Republic Day, achievements of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic within its short period of existence, as well as current state of affairs in the bilateral Czech-Azerbaijani relationship.

HE Vojtech Filip, Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic reciprocated by congratulating Azerbaijani people on the occasion of the Republic Day and confirming the Czech Republic's determination to develop ties with Azerbaijan in all formats.

During the event guests were offered a taste of Azerbaijani national, as well as world cuisine.
