Ambassador of Azerbaijan met President of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty
February 01, 2008 - Today Tahir Taghizade, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the Czech Republic visited Prague headquarters of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) for a meeting with Jeffrey Gedmin, President and CEO of RFE/RL.
Mr. Gedmin thanked Ambassador for paying visit to RFE/RL headquarters. "We are very happy to be present in Azerbaijan and the aim of our activity is to assist your country", said the President, adding that he intends to visit Baku this spring in order to discuss cooperation issues between the radio and Azerbaijan authorities.
Ambassador of Azerbaijan congratulated Mr. Gedmin on his first anniversary in the position of the RFE/RL President. The Ambassador emphasized the dedication of Azerbaijan authorities to develop democracy, including free and independent, at the same time responsible media. Regarding relations of official Baku with RFE/RL, the Ambassador said: "The Government of Azerbaijan is interested in cooperation with RFE/RL and approval of license for this radio once again demonstrates that will of Azerbaijani side".
Presidential campaign in the USA, bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic, activity of RFE/RL journalists in Azerbaijan and 2007 Baku Conference on the Role of Media in the Development of Tolerance and Mutual Understanding held under aegis of OIC were among the topics touched upon during discussions.
Diane Zeleny, Director of Communications and Kenan Aliyev, Head of Azerbaijani Service of the RFE/RL participated in the meeting.
